In the 1<b>6th century<\/b> the dedication to <b>Saint Mark<\/b> was added. The earliest documented reference to its existence dates back to <b>1288<\/b>, marking its long, significant presence in local history.<\/p>\n<p>In <b>1557<\/b>, following a pastoral visit by <b>Saint Charles Borromeo<\/b>, the parish seat was moved here, as the <b>Church of San Lazzaro<\/b> was in very poor condition due to a bad storm that had damaged it. <b>Don Stefano Tortorino<\/b> was its first parish priest, but the church only gained full administrative autonomy in <b>1635<\/b> with the fourth parish priest, <b>Don Andrea Cantone<\/b>. However, an official parish register recording baptisms, marriages, and funerals was only started in <b>1642<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, the church lost its religious function and was <b>sold to the Resta Pallavicino family <\/b>at the price of <b>25,000 lire<\/b> in order to fund the construction of the <b>new parish church.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Only part of the original structure has been preserved. The top of the bell tower, still visible in a photograph from the early 20th century, was demolished, and the building was lowered to the height of the roof. The bells remained in use until <b>1935<\/b> and were then moved to the n<b>ew parish church of San Marco<\/b>, after its bell tower was completed.<\/p>\n<p>After the old church was decommissioned, its premises housed the <b>Cooperativa di Consumo Trecellese<\/b>, which, before <b>World War I,<\/b> also dealt with renting agricultural machines to its farming members.<\/p>\n<p>The present caf\u00e9 retains the structure of the ancient building, with lowered ceilings and upper floors that may conceal remnants of frescoes, although, most of the original decorations are likely to have
