The Ferrero factory in Pozzuolo Martesana is one of the company’s four plants in Italy and the largest after Alba’s. Established in 1960 through the acquisition of Idam, a local bakery products company, it marked Ferrero’s penetration into the children’s snack market.

Production began with Ferrero Brioss, a sponger-cake like pastry filled with jam, followed by Fiesta.

The number of employees quickly grew from 150 to 700. A lot came from the nearby province of Bergamo and free transport was available for them.

Most families in town have had at least one of their members working for Ferrero. The Pozzuolo plant produces about 300 million snacks a year.
